"it's like a heat wave...."

The weather has been pretty gnarly lately. It has been in the 80s and the humidity has been off the charts, with light winds. Vog has taken over the island (volcanic smog, it's finally starting to clear up thank goodness.) When the Vog rolls in, our allergies act up and my eyes turn blood red. The heat has been almost unbearable. I normally try to grocery shop in the afternoon when it's at its peek just so I can be in air conditioning. I haven't bothered doing my hair this week because it usually ends up looking like this;

I don't mean to complain! I know that the winds will pick up soon and it will be back to normal. We did have the opportunity to use a friends pool the other day. Tristan loved it. It was his first time dunking in a pool. (I know that every post on our blog talks about Tristan's 'first' time this, 'first' time that, and it's probably getting annoying, but get used to it because he's got a lot of 'firsts' ahead of him. ha ha, sorry!) Here are some pics of pool day;

He really enjoyed being in the water and cooling off. Thanks Nancy for letting us use your pool. You may be seeing a lot of us this summer.

Big Isle

We headed over to the Big Island for Memorial Day weekend. This trip was Tristan's 'first' for many things.

First time on a plane. It was only a 30 minute flight but this boy did great. He slept the whole time. Just a practice run for our 5 hour flight in July to California. I'm a little nervous for that one.

First time visiting daddy's home in Kamuela. It was warm this time but cooled down some at night.

Dad and Tristan built a mini-fort in the front yard.

First time wearing a coat! No joke. Sometimes I wish we lived in cooler weather just so he could wear these cute jackets. Manoa gets pretty chilly so maybe next winter.

First time touching the ocean. Christian and the Wibergs were trying to convince me that he's ready to go all the way in. I didn't give in. I only let Christian put him in up to his knees.

Mama knows best. :)

Last but not least, his first time sleeping in a crib! We of course didn't bring his vibrate chair with us, so we thought that we would try out the portacrib. He slept 10 hours straight! It was magic. So we tried it out again last night in his big crib at home...and we are in business. No more buying big D batteries to keep his vibrate chair going all night. I'm so proud of him.

Good times on the Big Isle. Thanks for having us!

water baby

Tristan loves bath time. If he's having a melt down, all we have to do is draw his bath and dunk him in and he is a happy camper. We are thrilled that he likes the water, being that we hang out in the water so much ourselves. Hopefully it lasts. Salt water could be a different story.

When I was pregnant with baby T, Christian tried to get me out in the water as much as I could, thinking that the baby would learn to love the ocean while in the womb. He also wanted me out on the surfboard while pregnant. I don't think so.

I'm not much into zodiac signs, in fact, I could care less about them...But...I thought it was interesting that Tristan was born a Pisces. His element is water and his symbol is a fish.

pali lookout

It was my first Mother's Day! Tristan had to have known it was a special day because he slept in until 7:30 am. (bed time was 8:30 pm) Amazing. Thanks little one. I usually rely on him for my alarm clock so I woke up later than I was hoping because I had some lesson preparation stuff I needed to get done before 9:00 church. It was a little stressful morning but it turned out fine. When we came home, the house was an oven. It's been SO hot in Honolulu this past week, with no winds, almost unbearable. After lunch, we decided we needed to get out and cool off. One of Christian's favorite places is the Pali Lookout. It was nice and cool at the lookout, and of course beautiful. We now know where to escape to when our house heats up.

While Christian made us dinner (Chicken Katsu - Yum), T and I enjoyed some light reading. It's fun because he's finally starting to focus on the images in front of him. He will be reading in no time.

It was a lovely Mother's Day. Shout out to our moms; Marsha and Jlynn. Hope you had a grand day and thank you for being wonderful mothers.

great costco find

We discovered these Martha Stewart Chicken Pot Pies at Costco and it rocked our world. I think it's under $5 for one box. It's supposed to feed 4 but we secretly finish one box in one sitting. opps. Go treat you and your family to this delicious pot pie meal. It will change your life.

baby T's new friend

As long as baby Tristan has been in this world (10 weeks), he has only had two friends; that's his mom and his dad. He has now found a new friend that will make him just as happy. He's growing up so fast!
