serving tray

My new obsession...collecting serving trays/platters. This one was found at Savers for under $10. I instantly thought of Anthropologie or Urban Outfitters. Thank you old Asian ladies for donating your awesome, vintage houseware.

big island highlights part II

Tristan made it very clear that his Dad was his favorite person on this trip...and not me. I think that it's because at home, I'm with him all day, every day. So to be able to spend this much time with his Dad was pure heaven. I was always getting pushed away when they were having their special moments, no moms allowed! I guess I can't blame him, Dads are way more fun.

He took a nasty fall while paddling on one knee on the board. You can see the broken blood under the skin on his forehead. He was sad for one second and got right back up. It looks like someone needs a helmet for his birthday next month.

New Years Eve we met up with a couple of other families at Kalopa State Park to have a picnic lunch and play some frisbee baseball. Tristan was not shy and jumped right into the game.

Christian waves his sparklers next to his Dad and his twin brother, Christian.

Tristan was having some trials while the fireworks were going off, and we realized that it's because he didn't want his Dad to get hurt. Any time Christian got too close to the fireworks, he went hysterical and was screaming his Dad's name. Dad had to come up and comfort him a couple of times while I was holding him. As soon as he switched to Dad's arms, he would immediately stop crying and push me away to go play with the fireworks. Apparently he didn't really care if I got burnt or not. What a sweetheart.

big island highlights part I

One of the coolest parks I've ever seen. It's huge!

I totally get the golfing obsession. It's really peaceful and relaxing. I chose to sit out and drive the cart and read my book.

I jumped in and took a swing.

We met up with the Ray family, who were in town for their family vacation, staying at the Mauna Kea Hotel. We love the Rays. Tristan finally got to meet Rowan and they hit it off. How weird would it be to be thrown into a bath with stranger? They didn't seem to mind.

The Dads bathing their little ones.

At Mauna Kea Beach, Tristan attempted to take his new paddle board out for a test ride. He likes the idea of having a board, and carrying it, but once when he's in the water with it he gets a little nervous. Does that make him a poser? I think so. When he gets bigger, I'm sure he will toughen up.

Photobucket
Tristan barking orders at his Aunt Winnie and Uncle Diego while building their sand castle.

While mom and Aunt Coco relax in the sun.

Our favorite black sand beach, Waipio Valley. The weather was pretty chilly this day, but some of us were brave enough to jump in for a little swimming and surfing.
