Semi-camping at Malaekahana

This last weekend, C and I went camping at Malaekahana as a bit of a celebration of our anniversary and my birthday. This was one of the first times the two of us went camping all by ourselves, so we kind of cheated and stayed in a yurt (that round dome looking thing in the picture below). We also had a Foodland nearby and an intimate knowledge of the area since it's near Laie, so I wouldn't say that we were roughing it too much. The pictures are deceiving, the yurt was pretty ghetto, we were thinking that a tent would have been cleaner.

The first night there was nice and peaceful. There weren't that many people, we kind of had the place to ourselves. We wanted to pretend like we were really camping, so for dinner we made cup-o-noodles. We boiled our own water over the fire that C built! He forgot how much fun it is to play with fire, my lil' pyro.

This was our alarm clock in the morning, at about 6:15am.

We spent the morning at Gas Chambers, while C surfed and I walked on the beach and played in the water. The weather was perfect. C was blessed with an off-season north swell. We went back to camp after lunch and took an afternoon nap in the shade on the sand. We loved not having to be anywhere, it was so nice to relax.

Night two, we made the classic tin foil dinner. It turned out perfect for our first time. Following dinner, we roasted some smores for 3-hours straight. Christian was able to eat 8 smores, I downed 4!

Day 3, we decided to head back to Gas Chambers for round 2. The swell filled in, only 2 people were out, Christian was thrilled. (the picture below was in between sets)

So I happened to catch this wave on video, turns out C injured himself right before he took this wave in. You can tell he was in pain as he rode in. The gash on his foot was pretty deep and it wouldn't stop bleeding. Poor guy. He was only out for 15 minutes and we had to call it a day.

Our day wasn't completely ruined, we headed into Haleiwa to shop at Surf-n-Sea and ate lunch at Wailua Bakery. Best food on the north shore.

Even though it was only a couple of days, we both felt like we have been gone a long time. It was so great to enjoy being outside and being together. Peace.

That is a lot of s'mores. It must be in the genes to eat that many. I can only do one or two, but Rob and Tucker can just keep on going, indefinitely.

The camping looks like a lot of fun...what did Christian cut his foot on?

What a fun get away. Even if your place was a little getto, it looked pretty fun to me! I am glad you were able to get away to celebrate your anniversary and birthday. Your tin foil dinners looked like they turned out so good!! Yeah, for camping. :) (But that cut on Christian's foot does not look fun at all!)

How fun! I haven't gone camping in forever! Have I told you how jealous I am of your life? It sounds like paradise all the time. :)
