We're in love

Sweet baby Tristan is almost 5 weeks now and is growing so fast. We are savoring every minute we have with him because we know he won't be this tiny forever.

My two favorite boys.

He loves bath time. And one of his favorite things to do is curl up into a ball when I snuggle with him. He always brings his knees up to his chest.

Some of his new toys! He's still getting used to his new swing. He only lasts about 10 minutes in it before he cries. Also, his new stroller finally arrived. The Bumbleride Indie. So far, this stroller is amazing. It rides so smoothly and I can even steer with one hand.

I was able to sneak a quick video of my two boys cuddling together. So cute.

This boy has been busy

These first three weeks have been overwhelming but wonderful. It amazes us how much he changes each day. He weighed in this week at 7 lbs. 4 oz. Doc said he gained more than expected. We have a little porker on our hands. This is what the little guy has been up to;

He has found his own thumb. My mom said this is how I used to suck my thumb, with my whole hand resting on my face.

He's a snuggle bug. We're not complaining.

Faithfully doing his neck exercises. This little guy is strong.

Trying to figure out how he got here. He's very alert and aware of his surroundings now.

His umbilical cord fell off this week. Big week! This is his first 'big boy' bath and we were so proud of him, he didn't even cry. He's a little camera shy here.

He's already learned how to give stink eye. I'm not sure where he is learning this from.

I think we'll keep him

He loves sleeping on his side.

He's a sucker.

Some Dad time.

Tristan Kamuela

Baby Tristan was born on thursday morning the 26th of february. Everything went very smoothly. He came out sunny side up (with his face facing up), so he got a bit stuck for a little during delivery and came out with bruises on his forehead. He looked like he'd been in a street fight but he's still the cutest thing ever. He weighed 6 lbs 13 oz and was 20" long. He has pretty dark eyes that actually look like they could end up being blue, which would be a surprise, so we'll have to see. So far we've learned he's a big snuggle bug, he had a hard time sleeping last night if he wasn't being held and cuddled. The main thing is he's healthy and we are so happy to have the chance to be his parents!

His first car ride, going home from the hospital on saturday.

ps: we have to give a shout out to our doctor, Dr. Dao. He's one of our favorite people and we're kind of obsessed with him. He did a great job bringing Tristan to us safely and helped make the whole experience quite pleasant considering what was going on. thanks Dao!

38 weeks

I'm not sure if I can get any bigger! I had my Dr. appointment this morning and doc was shocked to see that I'm already dilated to a 5 and 75% effaced. What? I went into work after my appointment and worked a full day. Sitting on a beach towel of course. :) No labor pains yet. We are just going to wait it out. Doc said he could come tonight. Will keep you posted!

Nursery Dresser

This piece was found on craigslist last month for $25 with the idea of using it for baby's nursery. We love new projects and were so excited to start working on it. We knew that this dresser had a lot of potential.

Before:

Inspired by the designer Orla Kiely, we chose colors we liked to brighten the baby's room. I am so proud of Christian for all the hard work he put into this dresser (while pregnant mama had to stay away from the fumes). If we had it our way, we would refinish furniture all day, every day. It's too much fun.

Charley Harper

Our new favorite modernist artist, best known for his wildlife prints. I love the simplicity of his art and the colors that he uses. C and I just purchased a few of his educational books, flash cards and floor puzzle for baby... and you will not believe where we found it...Old Navy! I don't know if you guys have been in Old Navy lately but they have definitely stepped it up a notch with their style, they must have hired new designers. Check out more of his prints at http://www.charleyharperprints.com/. We are big fans.

35 weeks and growing

Baby is really active these days. His favorite thing to do is hang out under my ribs and play. I just love that. He still has his sweet cravings and needs his bowl of ice cream every night. I do what I can do for him. Countdown is on. Getting a little nervous. We can't wait to meet the little guy!

we're pretty much famous...(at least our dresser is)

We recently bought this dresser from craigslist for $25 (+$5 tip) and had some ideas about how to fix it up. We want to use it for baby's room. I knew there was potential to be a cool piece. We wanted to get more input so emailed Apartment Therapy with a couple pics and asked for their advice...That was a week or two ago and I was starting to think they were over helping us, then Shandra was browsing today and noticed our dresser and my email on their site! So we're pretty much famous by now. I've begun work on it and will post again next week with the final outcome. Get ready, it should be sweet...

check it out here.

We really like AT, it's a cool & free way to get advice for home design stuff like this, or just get inspired.

Christmas on the Big Island

Surprise baby shower at Merrimans. Thanks everyone for the fun gifts! And yummy lunch!

Christmas morning. Opening presents by the huge Christmas tree. Prelude music by Bill.

New back road to Waipio Valley. It cut about 10 minutes off the drive. Unfortunately this nice paved road ended quickly and became a nice off road adventure.

Waipio Valley. Christian and Jim (those tiny little surfers on the right side) are about to get slammed by the massive close outs.

Waipio on a clear day. Beautiful.

The island was so green from the rain the weeks before.

Check out that putt stance.

Searching for one of Christian's many lost balls.

Snuggle bug.

Happy New Years! We spent the evening with Brian and Jenn (aka - Bringina) at the Mauna Kea Hotel. Thanks for the fun night guys! It was a grand reunion.

Wasting time while we waited for the midnight countdown and fireworks on the beach.

Just enough time to get high together (high on life).

Christian's so proud of the baby bump, and the maternity high wasted elastic waste band jeans.

3-2-1...Happy New Year!

Christian and Ian L. headed out to A-Bay on New Years Day. He said that the conditions were as good as it gets there.

Christian laying down the law.

Mauna Kea got so much snow this winter!

We decided to head up there to play in the snow. It was freezing! A little over 13,000 ft., I was gasping for oxygen. Lots of snowboarders up there, with no lifts. They get dropped off at the top of the hills in their cars, or they have to climb up to the top and ride down.

We were so glad that we were able to spend the holidays with Christian's whole family this year. Thanks for the good times. We look forward to an exciting new year ahead of us.
